Dog Days of Summer!
“Dog Days”: the never-ending days of summer:
If you think of a dog, lazily sprawled on the deck in the shade, his tongue hanging out of the side of his mouth….you get the idea of how we feel in Texas watching those 100-plus days slowly tick by. I hope your weather hasn’t been as hellishly HOT as here.

I’d rather imagine myself enjoying Germany’s weather, which is so much more amiable. Summers are temperate, although they can be moist, dribbly, rainy, and thundering. But I love a summer rainstorm. Hmm, funny, that must be why I started Book One, Etch of a Promise with a torrential summer cloudburst that caused Nicklaus to wade up to his knees in the mud getting to his first glimpse of Cologne at Volksgarten Park.
Book Two is somewhat of a ‘tour guide’ of Berlin. Etched on the Heart expands on the family perspective, which we all can identify with. Maria’s estranged family, whom she reunites with in Berlin. And for Nicklaus, his family is in Luxemburg and he is drawn there for an emergency situation.
Etched on the Heart is drawing a great response from Beta Readers! What is a beta reader, you might ask? They are close friends who’ve offered to read the unfinished manuscript and give their candid opinions of how well the story is structured. According to many responses, Book Two is in its final editing rounds. The next step for a writer, like me, who’s self-publishing their book, is to have a freelance formatter bring consistent form, margins, type, and pagination to the manuscript.
An artist to design the book cover is already waiting for the go-ahead. All I have to do now is construct a page called “Author’s Notes.” In it, I explain and expand on some of the settings, historical facts, and social situations that may add more clarity to your reading of it.
That’s all for August. Keep believing in me….Etched on the Heart is coming to you soon!
Thanks for being part of my journey of writing and publishing. Drop me a line!
