White-sandy beaches and clean surf

White-sandy beaches and clean surf

Hi there, Etch of a Promise friend!

Summer brings many happy things, like, picnics, barbecues, pool visits, and … but my favorite summer treat is VACATIONS. Those of you who know me well, know that this is the absolute truth about me. I love to travel! That’s why I’m sharing a short verse by Hans Christian Anderson, the Danish folklore expert, from his autobiography, The Fairy Tale of My Life.

To move, to breathe, to fly, to float, to gain all while you give,

To roam the roads of lands remote, To travel is to live.

Hans Christian actually lived on Denmark’s Fünen island the same years my Grandfather Lars was alive and on that island! They’ll be included in Book Three—how Lars meets Hans Christian (fictionally) before Lars immigrates to the US, where he meets my Grandmother Elisabeth and marries her! It’s already partially written, so stay tuned for it!

Speaking of travel—Bob, Jakob, and I drove (not so remotely) four hours south to the Gulf Coast and Padre Island, TX. There we found beautiful, white-sandy beaches and clean surf. It’s not over-run with tourists, but home to Kemp Ridley turtles, great fishing, reasonable restaurants and accommodations, and absolutely lip-smackin’ seafood!

Ruby at white-sandy beaches and clean surfHere I am, slaving away near the water, feeling the breeze in my sails and recharging my batteries to return to my office and finish Etched on the Heart. It’s with the first editor right now. Within a few more months, it will go through a couple dozen more edits and be published on Amazon by summer’s end. Buckle up your seat belts, readers, because surprises are coming for Nicklaus and Maria. You’ll find some jaw-dropping historical facts too. Need I say more?

Pet story: Our pet story this month is about a male cat named Loo, who moved in with his owner, our son Jakob, while Jakob waits a couple of months position change/possible promotion.

Loo is feisty and active. I love that he ‘talks’ a lot. “Meow” is the only word he knows but with inflection I can get what he’s saying. It’s usually ‘pet me,’ or ‘feed me.’

Loo and Jack are slowly getting acquainted, but that’s just how dogs and cats are. By the time Jakob ships off to Georgia, they’ll be great friends, and then, they’ll both miss each other. You know: that’s just how dogs and cats are.

As always, I’d love hearing from you. I’d enjoy hearing about your own vacation. Don’t worry, I won’t share it in this newsletter (although I’d sure like to!) Keep in mind that book 2 is on the last lap to becoming a reality. Sending your way a big suitcase of good wishes…
